"Ang pow" in the Chinese dialect Hokkein means 'red packet" and is given on auspicious occasions like new years, births, birthdays, weddings etc. In multiracial Malaysia, this giving of "angpow" has been adopted by all cultures as a token of giving and receiving good tidings and celebrations. With the coming of Raya Adilfitri soon, Muslim children eagerly await the receiving of Raya 'angpow'... Little colourful packets of varying designs containing money.
The class today is taken through the re-engineering of an "angpow” envelope. The students learn to take apart the envelope, trace its outline, and expend their individual creativity to come up with a personalised design, then reassemble their very own Raya "angpow".
Learning Outcome: Use of re-engineering process to come up with a similar item, differentiated by an individual approach and creativity; so also having fun, honing precision skills and a questioning mind
